John regularly gives talks in his local village, Hook Norton. His talks range from the history of Bletchley Park to the Apollo space programme, to the history of flight (which you may remember him delivering to u3a). He will tell us tell us about Astronomer Royal Nevil Maskelyne, who did his best to thwart the acceptance of John Harrison's marine chronometer as a means of determining longitude in favour of his own preference for the Lunar Distance method...he'll talk about what led to the formation of The Board of Longitude in 1714 and the prize offered to whoever could measure longitude to within half a degree...and more.
