Witney U3A Groups List

Interest Groups

Interest Groups are at the very centre of every u3a. There are no entry qualifications and no tutor fees (although some groups require a pre-existing level of skill such as in a foreign language). Interest groups range from intellectual to social. The groups are a great way to develop your interests and make new friends - the possibilities are endless.

We are always keen to find out about what knowledge and experience you might bring to our branch of u3a. Witney currently has over sixty interest groups but we could always do with more!

Groups often meet in each others’ homes or larger groups may use a public venue such as a café or pub. Several groups arrange outings and visits. Please look at the descriptions of our current groups on the website for initial information and any relevant guidance.

You will be invited to meet other new members soon after joining Witney u3a. The Groups Coordinator will then introduce you to which groups are available for you to apply to join. As the membership lists of our individual groups are updated on a regular basis, there can never be a guarantee that you can join the group you want to, exactly when you want to.

Please do not simply turn up to any group meeting without prior approval or invitation from the Group Leader or Coordinator. Not only is there is a protocol for joining groups, there may well also be a waiting list of people ahead of you! Nor do we allow members of other u3as to join our groups (as may have happened historically) unless they have gone through the formal process of joining Witney u3a as affiliated or new full members first. Please do check if this may apply to you or you have a question.

Finally, Witney u3a no longer offers “taster” or “guest” sessions because this brings with it too many unwanted complications - so please do not ask for one. The Groups Coordinator can try to answer any questions you may have initially or we might recommend that you have a chat with the relevant Group Leader before deciding whether to join a group – it all depends on the nature of the query. If you join a group and later find it is not what you were looking for, we will all understand!

We are, above all else, a voluntary organisation run by volunteers and many of us kindly open up our homes as well! Our Code of Conduct applies to everyone wishing to be part of u3a and it goes without saying that we require everyone to be respectful and courteous at all times as a prerequisite of membership. Having said all that, we very much look forward to welcoming you into Witney u3a and everything it has to offer!

Once you are a paid up Witney u3a member you may contact a Group Leader, by clicking on their leader group email or link, to see if they have a space or waiting list. The status of the group will indicate current availability.

-Accidents/Incidents In the event of accidents, personal injury or property damage whilst attending u3a meetings or activities an Incident Report Form must be completed and submitted to a member of the Committee as soon as possible.
