When: On Mondays
Every 3rd Monday of the month
Venue: No standard venue - Outings ONLY

We meet on the third Monday of the month to explore places of interest in the Cotswolds and to discover their history.

We are not purely a local history group, although - where appropriate - we have been known to organise guided tours or walks from local experts to explain the historical importance of locations. Nor are we simply a lunch club, though at least one stop for food and drink always features on our outings!

I often describe our outings as "like a holiday cruise port of call". We usually convene around 10am or 10:30am and are often on our way home around 2:30pm or 3pm. And very often I find myself thinking as I leave "I must come back and explore this town further when I've got more time!".

We rely heavily on the kindness of individual group members who offer lifts to our chosen venues (although the camaraderie of a bus journey has stayed long in the memory whenever the journey is commutable from Witney on public transport).

A typical, third Monday* outing (though no two Cotswold towns or villages are quite the same) will include;

  • a visit to a Church (either side of a tea or coffee stop)
  • a short walk to admire the architecture
  • a museum* visit
  • a light lunch

Please Note* - as our nominated day is a Monday, and as many museums and cafes or pubs often chose that day not to open, we do occasionally agree to a variation (to another day of the week) where a 'must see' opportunity presents itself).

We've been in existence for more than two and a half years and members have joined us at a steady rate. So its not uncommon for us to visit a place more than once - that is already the case with Burford, Cheltenham and Cirencester.
