Back in 2010, Pam Jones, Honorary President of Witney U3A said "We want to do something to celebrate our 25th anniversary", having been established in March 1985. We wanted something in the town to remind people who we are and also to give something to the
town. If I remember correctly, we had a special celebration meeting and invited the Vice Chair of the u3a Trust to speak. She was Rosemary McCulloch, niece of Uncle Mac who was on Children's Hour on the radio many years ago and was an excellent speaker.’

The bench has already gone through a previous restoration but was it need of a second!
The Witney u3a Bench returns! Many, many thanks to our member Gerald Peach and his small group of friends for restoring it to its former glory!
Latest update from Pam Jones.
The bench was purchased by Witney u3a in 2010 to commemorate our 25th birthday. We were founded in 1985. The committee at that time, of which I was Chair, decided that we should do something for the community. We had to comply with Council regulations and in fact the then Council provided the bench and fixed it in place. The central location seemed a very convenient place for shoppers to stop and we hoped that they would want to find out more about u3a.
I believe that it was refurbished by members a few years ago. I do not have any photos of it but one or two members from the 2010 committee are still around so I will enquire of them.
